- "They brought together a brilliant cast and crew from England and America, others and Juilliards.
- It was just a great experience so far," Washington said at the 59th New York Film Festival.
Denzel Washington believes that his co-author of The Macbeth Tragedy, Francis McDormand, is like a beast. "Francis McDormand is a beast," 66-year-old Washington said Friday night at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center from the Performing Arts in New York about his wife's brutality.
The actor described how "The Tragedy of Macbeth" writer and director Joel Cohen, 66, and his real wife McDormand, 64, brought together an international group and Juilliard School alumni for a black and white film with Washington and McDormand as Lord and Lady Macbeth, respectively. Washington also discussed what it thinks about Manhattan's prospects during the global COVID-19 epidemic.
"They brought together a brilliant cast and crew from England and America, others and Juilliard. So it was a great experience across the board, and I hope we do come back," Washington said.
The optimistic two-time Oscar winner thinks it's essential that New York makes sense to stay open.
"If we're wise, we'll be fine. Otherwise, we'll close again, so I hope so," he added. In addition to Washington and McDormand, The Macbeth Tragedy also features Corey Hawkins, Brendan Gleeson, Harry Melling, Bertie Carwell, Catherine Hunter, Moses Ingram, Ralph Ineson Brian Thompson, Sean Patrick Thomas, Alex Hassel, and Steven.
What did Washington think of his film based on William Shakespeare's classic and opened the 59th New York Film Festival? "Not too old, not too worn," he admits. The Macbeth tragedy hits theaters this Christmas.
