Stefano Pessina is an Italian-Monegasque billionaire businessman and the vice chairman, CEO, and the biggest single shareholder of Walgreens Boots Alliance.
Pessina was born on 4 June1941 in Pescare and grew up among Milan, Naples and Como.
He was graduated in nuclear engineering earlier than starting his profession in academia and later becoming a member of market research firm ACNielsen in Milan. He wanted to be a nuclear physicist, however was discouraged through the tumultuous political climate of 1970s.
Stefano Pessina has served as Executive Vice Chairman due to the January 2015 and as our Chief Executive Officer due to the July 2015, having served as our Acting Chief Executive Officer from January 2015 to July 2015.
Previously, he served as Executive Deputy Chairman of Alliance Boots,he served as Executive Chairman of Alliance Boots. He was the Deputy Chairman of Alliance UniChem, formerly having served as its Chief Executive Officer for 3 years thru December 2004.
He was appointed to the board of administrator of Alliance UniChem in 1997 whilst UniChem merged with Alliance Santé, the Franco-Italian pharmaceutical wholesale organization he set up in Italy in 1977.
Mr. Pessina served at the board of administrators of Galenica AG, a publicly-traded Swiss healthcare institution, from 2000 to 2017. He serves at the board of administrators of some of privately-held companies.
