Mr. Clarkson said, "I didn't expect the show to be so successful.
"Then thousands of people came down - we weren't ready for that, the village wasn't ready for that." Resident Maggie Jackman, who called on the Radio 2 show, said Clarkson was "very nice, disarming and funny" at the meeting. "He won most of the crowd in 10 minutes," he said but added that the village was "divided into three."
"There is a powerful opposition that wants to close it; there is a middle ground, then there are younger ones who welcome it." People who left the meeting on Thursday said Clarkson had announced plans to turn the sheep pen into a restaurant and limit the number of visitors to his shop.
