Spider-Man: No Way Home plays "biggest hit" and inspires critics

- The franchise's ninth solo film since 2002 sees the return of Tom Holland as Peter Parker's third iteration.
It is set in the Marvel Universe and tries to unify the Dutch era with the previous Spidey worlds of its predecessors Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield. According to Variety, director John Watts questioned "the awkward place in the always entertaining blockbuster."
Its author, Peter Debrugge, credits the use of the multiverse plot to "explore more fully what Peter Parker represents." The film follows from 2019. Far from home, the villain Mysterio Parker is exposed before he dies.
Now, worried about his family and friends, Parker urged Dr. Strange of Marvel, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, to cast a spell that will restore his anonymity.
But the plan goes wrong and instead opens a portal to a parallel world, forcing Parker of Holland to face not only an old enemy but also an alternate self.
The return of Garfield and Maguire has been the subject of heated speculation and expectation - and repeated denials by those involved. But few people believe it.
Debruge says the former Spiderman is back with confidence. In the plot, Holland also puts on his best performance - with the character going deeper and showing how he struggles to cope with his role in Mysterio's Death.
The focus on the consequences "seems very appropriate for a film aimed at a new wave of idealistic teens who are deeply committed to questioning everything Western civilization believes knows about crime and punishment, power and privilege," he wrote.
"It's interesting to find runaway proposals from Hollywood trying to understand the roots of the megalomaniac behavior of these characters."
IGN reviewer Amelia Amberwing also said the "emotional impact" gave the film "new depth that was never explored in a previous Spider-Man film." Its success, he says, has not only been due to Holland's fall but also to the appearance of returning enemies, from Willem Defoe's Green Ghost to Alfred Molina's Doc Ock to Jamie Foxx's Electro.
"Spider-Man: No Way Home hits just the right tone of the latest MCU entry. The impact on the universe as a whole, as well as the overall emotional impact, is all worth it."
But Culture Mix suggests that this film is best suited for die-hard Spidey fans.
