Ukraine War: That's why Russia lost so many tanks

Russia has faced fierce opposition from Ukrainian forces in a war that has lasted more than a month.

Russian troops have faced fierce resistance since the day they invaded Ukraine more than a month ago. Given that the Russian forces were outnumbered and had advanced weaponry, many believed that the war would be over in days.

But that didn't happen. Instead, resistance against the Russians grew stronger as they marched on the capital, Kyiv, causing them to lose a lot of guns and weapons.

How many Russian tanks were destroyed?

Oryx, a military and intelligence blog that reports on Russian military losses in Ukraine through photos from the war zone, said the Russian military had lost more than 2,000 armored vehicles and 460 tanks.

The US think tank Rand Corporation, together with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), said that Russia had more than 2,700 tanks before the war in Ukraine.

How did Ukraine destroy so many Russian tanks?

Much of that success was due to weapons provided by Western countries, including the United States. For example, the United States supplied 2,000 Javelin anti-tank missiles to Ukraine when the conflict broke out and later sent another 2,000.

The light but lethal weapons have allowed the army in Ukraine to deal heavy damage to Russian tanks and artillery.

According to Lockheed Martin, the missile is automatically aimed at the target (throw and forget system), which allows the gunner to hide and evade firefighters or launch new missiles.

They are coupled with a softer launch that makes it harder for enemies to see where they're being shot from.

The spear explodes at the top of the tank, where the armor is considered the weakest.

In addition to the United States, Britain sent NLAW and Starstreak missiles, which also helped Ukraine destroy the Russian drone.

The United States is now supplying Ukraine with 100 Switchblade anti-tank drones, reports the news.
